Rebecca Vardy’s agent begged her not to sue Colin Rooney for defamation, The Mail on Sunday reveals.

Caroline Watt, the public relations agent who played a vital off-stage role in the Supreme Court drama played between the two WAGs, tried to talk her through the legal process and urged her to move on with her life.

Friends of former air hostess Ms Watt say she was initially supportive of Ms Vardy after Ms Rooney accused her of leaking the stories, but was upset when the dispute escalated into legal action.

One said: “Caroline saw all this running in front of them and wanted it to stop.

She tried to stop Becky but she didn’t have any.

She was determined that she would get her apology from Colin at any cost, so she just kept going and going. Becky was warned that it was going to be too expensive and there was a lot of harmful correspondence between Caroline and herself, but it was as if Becky was on a runaway train and there was nothing Caroline could do about it.

Everything has gotten out of control. It was unusual to see Caroline. She had spent years advising Becky and being her friend, so she was hoping to listen to her in this regard. Unfortunately, you don’t.

Ms Vardy accepted in court documents that Ms Watt may have leaked stories to The Sun, but this was without her knowledge.

She was accused in court of betraying Mrs Watt by “throwing her under the bus”.

WhatsApp messages surfaced last week showing Ms Watt admitted to giving the newspaper a story about Ms Rooney, whose SUV crashed in Washington, DC.

Ms Watt, 39, who is no longer employed by Ms Vardy and is unable to testify due to illness, also spoke to her about selling details of former Leicester City footballer Danny Drinkwater who was arrested for drunk driving in 2019.

Ms Vardy’s friends say her determination to win the Supreme Court battle, which began on Tuesday, was helped by her husband Jamie’s goal for Leicester City in their 3-0 win over Norwich City on Wednesday.

Ms Vardy, pictured leaving the Royal Courts of Justice, is suing Colin Rooney for defamation after Ms Rooney claimed her WAG colleague had leaked ‘false stories’ about her personal life to the press.

“It gives her confidence and nourishes her,” one of them said. Jimmy scored twice and that gave Becky a little extra oomph that she needed to get through her rough days on the court. The whole time he scores and plays at such a high level, you know it’s all good.

The Department of Agriculture could also reveal that teams in England who Ms Vardy were accused of setting up for a photographer when they all ate at a restaurant at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, are ‘totally devastated’.

One said she “can’t believe” the suggestion that a fellow WAG teammate might even consider “doing the dirty things” on them in this way.

“Becky had a private plane to take her around the games so she didn’t spend much time with the group of women, but they nevertheless trusted her,” said one of the sources. “Many of them feel very sad.”

Vern Hawkins, who married England and Manchester United defender Harry Maguire last week, is said to be particularly upset.

Ms Rooney, 36, and her husband, Wayne, 35, left to be with their four children at home in Cheshire on Friday after she testified.

The couple had been staying near the Supreme Court, but it is believed that they wanted family time before she returned to the witness box.

Mrs. Vardy came home to her five children. But insiders believe her husband, 35, would have found last week’s court revelations embarrassing, particularly those about former teammate Drinkwater.

One said: ‘It must be very hard for him to know that no matter what dressing room he is in, there can easily be doubt that he is directed at him because of this.’

The Vardy family, who are reportedly worth £12m, were once football’s golden couple.

It was reported that a Hollywood director is planning to make a movie about their rise to fame, but the project appears to have been left out.

Vardy also set up the V9 Academy to find non-league football talent, which has become the subject of the Sky TV series – but her Instagram page hasn’t been updated in nearly a year.
