Just minutes from the hustle and bustle of busy East London Road, a moment of serenity awaits those curious enough to step into a modest 19th-century chapel, where they will findLifts of white petals gently falling from the ceiling.

The joyful work is the work of artist and Instagram sensation Cj Hendry, who has transformed space into a magical world of dappled sunlight for her first exhibition in the British capital. With a church setting and rows of candles, it feels like something out of Harry Potter (the artist is a fan).

The show, called Conclusion, includes 30 new drawings of flowers in a hyper-realistic Hendry style. The visual illusion of the graphics is so convincing that one visitor was overheard commenting to the artist during the special: “I love your pictures.”

The new work set is a monochromatic affair with black and white, a more muted palette than we know from the artist’s masterpiece. optical illusion Graphics have always taken over the internet. Joining the drawings are a group of delicate floral sculptures.

WWhile the new business is quiet, and he certainly doesn’t get hurt by the setting, the effect is rather melancholy. This is intentional. The artist evokes the temporary nature of beauty, drawing attention to the fact that she picks up cut flowers on the verge of wilting and rotting.

“Naturally, in this time of the world, this series is concerned with the provocation of time, death and decay,” Hendry said. “We cherish flowers for their fleeting beauty. Countless artists have photographed flowers in full bloom, but few have photographed them as they begin to wilt and shed their petals. To me, that is where beauty lies, and ‘The Conclusion’ is a keepsake to them and a reminder that nothing lasts forever “.

The temporary nature of the exhibition itself (which will only run for 10 days) presents a stark contrast to the delicate and time-consuming process of image-making; Even small-sized businesses can take up to 80 hours to complete.

In preparation for the exhibition, Hendry’s team has invested in renovating the church, which was damaged in the 1960s, and will be returned to the community after the show ended. While the artist is officially trained as an architect, she told Artnet News in the opening that she had left the repair work to the real professionals, admitting: “I was a bad architect.”

The exhibition was unforgettable with its millions of paper petals, which amount to about 10 tons of confetti, which were prepared to fall continuously from the church ceiling for the duration of the ten-day exhibition. They covered the floor under her drawing, which pulls reference points from 17-Dutch paintings from the last century still alive and pop art by Andy Warhol. See photos of the amazing gallery below.

“Cj Hendry: Epilogue” is on display at New Testament Church, London E3 5AA, until May 22.
